Key Stage Three

At key stage three pupils will learn how to use many Microsoft Windows tools in order to manage their own user environment effectively.

They will also learn and develop their IT skills and knowledge in word processing, presentations, databases and spreadsheets using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access and Paint.

In addition, pupils will learn the theory behind these applications and record their skills progress over the year.

Facilities

The ICT department at Bryn Hafren has three computer suites that between them have facilities such as laser printing, air conditioning, projectors, RM mobile class pads and a variety of software titles such as Adobe Photoshop, Matchware Mediator8 and the Microsoft Office Suite.

All timetabled ICT lessons take place in these suites and they are available during lunchtimes for GCSE and A Level pupils to work on their ICT coursework.

Key Stage Four

At GCSE level, pupils at Bryn Hafren have the opportunity to complete the new DiDA (Diploma in Digital Application) course an online, paperless qualification.
We offer two options within this course.

In year 10 all pupils work towards an Award in Digital Application (AiDA) which is the equivalent to one GCSE by completeing Unit 1 “Using ICT”.
In year 11 those who feel confident enough can progress to a Certificate in Digital Applications (CiDA), the equivalent of two GCSEs (probably a Multiedia based unit) or they can keep working on achieving the AiDA.

This work will be completed totally on computer (no printing) using an e-portfolio which is an electronic folder of work.
