Welsh Baccalaureate Students Fundraising Fayre

Every year Sixth Form students from Bryn Hafren combine their Welsh Baccalaureate studies with fun to organise a Fayre for the pupils of Bryn Hafren.

These hugely successful events are the culmination of weeks of planning as part of their Team Enterprise venture. Each group chose an activity and decided which charity to donate any profits to – Ty Hafan, Joshua Foundation, Dogs Trust, RSPCA, Cancer Research, British Heart Foundation, Motor Neuron Society, etc.

The fayre is attended by hundreds of pupils and raises over £600 profit. Everyone agrees it is very enjoyable and worthwhile.

Luckily it was a sunny day for those who volunteered to go into the stocks. The Joshua Foundation was the chosen charity to benefit from this. The Head Boy and staff alike entered into the spirit of the day and got a good soaking! Can you spot the Easter Rabbit? Our big fluffy bunny was overseeing the coconut shy. All those pennies add up and certainly lots were spent buying raffle ticketson the day. Who could resist the chocolate fountain ! During the day a number of exotic “ animals” could be seen around the school all skilfully face painted. For those who wanted something a little more subtle there were tasteful decorations for the face!

Name the Teddy was very popular with the winning name being Melanie which was appropriate as Melanie Bowden in Year 12 won it. Guess the result of the Rugby match proved very popular. In the afternoon a team from Bryn Hafren sixth form played Barry Comprehensive to raise funds for Marie Curie This stall was a winner with staff and pupils alike who ate their way through a selection of tasty cakes all home baked by the girls. Lauren Thompson, Corrine Williams and Ashleigh White made an impressive 210 cakes each between them! They also had a lucky dip with 60 prizes. Carys Toozer another member of this group said “ With all those delicious cakes, and prizes, it’s no wonder our stall raised the most! – we will be donating £80 for Action for Children” This bunny went to a loving home when it was won by Leila in year 7. There were queues for “ Big Mouth Bunny”– who could manage to throw three balls through the mouth of the rabbit without hitting the teeth? Bags of sweets awaited those who were successful! Who would guess that over five hundred mini eggs could fit in a jar!
